Q. Hello I am Rajdeep desai. I am 45 and work as a sales manager. I recently got my BP checked at a local clinic and it came out to be marginally high at 145/90. My doctor asked me to come back within 2 weeks time to recheck the BP and advised me to cut down on my salt intake. My Question is what simple interventions can I make to lower my BP ? For true Hypertension, BP should be more than 140 systolic and or 90 diastolic on three different visits. Following are some of the lifestyle changes which you can apply to lower your BP naturally

  • Increased intake of fruits and vegetables.
  • Remove or lower salt intake
  • Avoid high calorie fatty foods to help in weight reduction
  • Increase or introduce garlic into your daily diet
  • Regular exercise, preferably involving both aerobics and muscle strengthening exercises
  • Taking up activities like Yoga, swimming and meditation
  • Taking measures to reduce stress in your life e.g holidays, family outings and gatherings
  • Quit SMOKING, ALCOHOL and CAFFEINE
  • Include leafy green vegetables, bananas, blueberries, oat meals and red beets in your diet
